EATING DISORDERS

Help me manage my eating disorder

If you or someone in your family has a diagnosed eating disorder it is important to see a dietitian.

If you suspect an eating disorder, but you're not sure, it's important to seek advice from your GP, a psychologist, or a dietitian. Early assessment can help with treatment results, and the sooner a person is diagnosed and starts treatment for an eating disorder, the better the results are likely to be. Dietitians do not diagnose eating disorders as this is outside their scope of practice. However, they can help identify issues that need further assessment by a suitably qualified specialist.

Eating disorders can be an under-eating problem or an over-eating (binge eating) problem. Binge eaters feel they have no control over what they eat or how much they eat. Whether your problem is under-eating or over-eating, Fiona Boyle at Food Solutions is a NZ Registered Dietitian and a Nutritionist and has experience in treating eating disorders. To ensure that you receive the best care and management, Fiona will also encourage you to also see a registered psychologist.  It is also important to include your GP in the team helping you to manage your eating disorder.
